NY Rt 2 (Congress and Ferry) Q&A

The City of Troy is redesigning the Rt 2 corridor (Congress and Ferry Streets) in Downtown Troy, from the Congress Street Bridge on the west to the 11th St intersection on the east.

The project team (City of Troy and their consultant, Creighton Manning Engineering) presented three concepts to the public on July 30th. There was no opportunity for an open Q&A at the event, but, fortunately, Capital Streets was able to develop a dialogue with the Project Manager, Chris Geroux, from Creighton Manning Engineering. Read the Q&A below and check out the project website, where you can leave feedback, here.

For more context and information please see CS’s full 08/09/24 comments here.

After the July 30th public meeting, Capital Streets reached out to Creighton Manning with questions as outlined in CS’s full comments. Creighton Manning’s responses can be found in the full Q&A document.

OUR PROPOSED
ALTERNATIVE CONCEPTS

Capital Streets suggests the following layouts for both Congress and Ferry Streets (33' curb-to-curb width):

  • 11' Travel Lane

  • 7.5' Parking Lanes (on each side)

  • Parking-Protected Bike Lane with a -

    • 5' Bike Lane

    • 2' Buffer

Note: These concepts were developed by Capital Streets using the curb-to-curb width of 33’ provided by Creighton Manning. Sidewalks and structures are shown for illustrative purposes only, as changing the width of the sidewalk has generally been recognized as out of the project scope.

You can advocate for parking and protected bike infrastructure on Congress and Ferry + demand the infrastructure extends to at least 8th St by contacting Chris Geroux of Creighton Manning and City of Troy Planner, Andrew Kreshik directly at cgeroux@cmellp.com - and - Andrew.Kreshik@troyny.gov, respectively.
